Riken Brain Science Institute

The Institute is housed in four buildings on the Wako Campus and has approximately 40,000 square meters of laboratory and common space. Currently, over 400 researchers and staff are employed at the Institute of whom 20% are foreign. In addition, RIKEN BSI supports almost 300 research fellows and visiting research scientists. In addition to research on the campus, RIKEN BSI also places high importance on conveying brain science to the general public. It has built an exhibit called "BrainBox" which highlights some of the basic mechanisms and objectives of brain science. The exhibit is free and available for group visits. In addition, RIKEN BSI also participates annually in World Brain Awareness Week, founded by the Dana Alliance Brain Initiatives, which aims to promote public and political awareness of brain research.
